BUTTERFLIES OF KAAS VALLEY, MAHARASHTRA, INDIA

Abstract


Kaas valley of Maharashtra is declared as World Biodiversity Heritage Site by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Present communication reports the occurrence of thirty four species of butterflies from this heritage site. Among them, Kallima horsfieldi Kollar is endemic to the Western Ghats and Hypolimnas misippus (Linnaeus) and Catalius rosimon Fabricius are under Schedule 1 of Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
