Enhancements and Updates (July 2018)

At the recent meeting of the Executive Council of the Societas Europaea Herpetologica, several decisions were made that have an impact on the publication process of Herpetology Notes. The journal has run under its current editorial management for almost two years, and we are now ready to make some necessary adjustments as follows:

(1) We will begin requiring a pre-peer review for ALL articles submitted. In addition, Full Articles will be sent out to two reviewers and Short Notes to one reviewer. We request that reviewers complete the review of Full Articles within one month of accepting the review, with Short Notes being reviewed within ten days. Submission of a pre-peer review is designed to help the reviewers with their reviews, so that the overall review quality is enhanced even within the relatively short review period.

(2) The publication fee structure is revised as of today's date, such that new submissions will incur a €50 charge for the first five published pages, payable upon receipt of page proofs. Additional pages are billed at €5 per page. With the submission of proof of membership, SEH members are billed at the reduced rate of €20 for the first five pages, plus €5 for each additional page.

(3) Authors are encouraged to provide a short statement about their research, including an illustration, to the Managing Editor for Publication along with their corrected page proofs for posting on the SEH Facebook page and on other social media, as appropriate.

(4) Authors are encouraged to submit to the Editor-in-Chief suggestions for how to enhance the journal, its performance, and how to promote published articles.

We would like to be your go-to journal for shorter, high-quality, rapidly-published contributions, and we cannot do it without you.

Sincerely,

Hinrich Kaiser
